As part of clinical-psychological diagnostics, the psychological characteristics of people of all ages and in various situations are recorded. The aim of the diagnosis is to determine the mental state as well as possible problems and impairments of experience and behavior and to recommend further treatment steps.
For example, symptoms in the areas of depression, anxiety, personality, concentration and memory are recorded. Stress caused by life crises or trauma can also be diagnosed and treated.
Clinical-psychological diagnosis is an essential prerequisite for successful treatment (psychological therapy or psychotherapy).
Procedure for clinical-psychological diagnostics
In any case, a referral for clinical-psychological diagnostics by a doctor (e.g. a specialist in psychiatry) is advisable. A suspected diagnosis is made, which is checked as part of the psychological diagnosis and existing symptoms are examined.
Initial consultation
A detailed discussion is held about current symptoms and stress, but information is also gathered about the patient's life history and the progression of the problems. Further diagnostic steps are planned on the basis of this discussion.
Test dates
Standardized test procedures (e.g. interviews, questionnaires, performance tests) are used in the subsequent appointments. As a rule, 3-5 appointments are required for this.
Compilation of findings and feedback meeting
The information collected is summarized in a written report and a diagnosis (if available) is made. The findings and the recommended next steps are discussed with you in detail in a feedback meeting and any questions are clarified.
