Somatic Experiencing (SE®)

Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach to understanding, coping with or preventing stress caused by shock and trauma.

This type of trauma therapy works with the psychophysiological consequences of an event, not with the event itself. The aim is to resolve the dysfunction of the nervous system caused by the event.
Very important in this work are one's own body perception ("felt sense") and personal resources - they have an essential function in renegotiating the trauma. The so-called "frozen situation" from the past, which is blocking, can be released, dissolved and reintegrated through this work.

Somatic Experiencing was developed by Peter Levine on the basis of neuroscience and psychotraumatological research.
