Trauma verstehen und behandeln
Trauma is a normal reaction to an extraordinary event that overwhelms our psychological ability to cope and triggers feelings of being overwhelmed and helpless. The mental and physical balance is shaken and fundamental trust in oneself, others or the environment can be lost.
At WIENER COUCH, we specialize in trauma therapy and offer three scientifically based, demonstrably effective therapy and support methods:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Stressful memories are processed through targeted eye movements that are similar to natural trauma processing. The aim is to re-evaluate traumatic experiences and store them neutrally in the memory so that they are no longer perceived as overwhelming.
Brainspotting (BS)
This method uses the direction of gaze to activate and process deeply hidden memories. Brainspotting builds on EMDR, but places a special focus on physical sensations that are integrated during the therapy.
Somatic Experiencing (SE)
A body-oriented approach that restores the self-regulation of the nervous system. Traumatic energies that are "frozen" in the body are released step by step to reduce symptoms.
NARM™ (NeuroAffective Relational Model)
The neuroaffective relationship model (NARM) is a modern therapeutic tool for trauma healing. It strengthens self-regulation and promotes the development of a healthy self-image.
NARM focuses on relational and attachment trauma and works with unconscious, early patterns that deeply affect identity, emotions, physiology, behavior and relationships.
The method developed by Laurence Heller emphasizes strengths, vitality, abilities and resilience and specifically targets the regulation of the nervous system. A central focus is on the five basic biological needs: Contact, Attunement, Trust, Autonomy and Intimacy.
Accompanying method: Feldenkrais
Traumatized people often experience unbearable sensations such as inconsolability, pressure in the stomach or tension in the chest. Avoiding such sensations can lead to being overwhelmed by them. Through body awareness, we come into contact with our inner world and open ourselves up to new perspectives and possibilities for action.
The Feldenkrais Method® supports mindful self-awareness and can be helpful for neurological disorders (e.g. MS, Parkinson's, stroke), psychosomatic complaints, stress, burnout, anxiety and coping with trauma. It effectively complements psychotherapy.
The polyvagal theory
Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory explains how our nervous system reacts to safety, danger and life-threatening situations. It describes three basic states:
- Security (ventral vagus) - Enables social interaction, emotional flexibility and bonding.
- Danger (sympathetic nervous system) - Activates fight or flight reactions in the event of a threat.
- Life-threatening (dorsal vagus) - Leads to freezing or dissociation in hopeless situations.
Our methods address these neurobiological mechanisms in order to restore the balance in the nervous system and enable sustainable healing.
