Our aim is to specifically identify the symptoms and improve your quality of life in the long term with individually tailored treatment.
What is ADHD?
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a multifactorial neurobiological disorder that usually first manifests itself before the age of twelve.
Typical symptoms
People with ADHD often experience the following challenges:
- Reduced attention and ability to concentrate,
- Easily distracted,
- Hyperactivity,
- Reduced impulse control.
These symptoms often mean that those affected find it difficult to perform to the level of their intelligence. Everyday life can be made more difficult by a lack of structure and organization. Other common side effects are
- Uncontrolled fits of rage,
- Chronic postponement of tasks (procrastination),
- Frequent job changes,
- Increased consumption of substances such as caffeine, alcohol, cannabis or amphetamines.
For many of those affected, the symptoms persist beyond puberty and continue to affect them significantly in adulthood.
Our ADHD diagnostics
Careful diagnosis is the first step towards successful treatment. That is why we offer you a structured clinical-psychological ADHD diagnosis, which includes the following steps:
- Specialist psychiatric examination (recommended in advance)
- Clinical-psychological diagnostics (50 min. per unit):
- 2 units: Medical history, exploratory interview and clinical interview
- 2 units: Psychological test procedures and questionnaires
- 1 unit: Discussion of findings
What you should bring with you for diagnostics:
- If available: Report cards, written assessments of school performance (e.g. primary school reports) and previous reports.
- If you need glasses, please bring them with you.
Treatment for ADHD
For successful treatment, we rely on an integrative approach that combines psychopharmacological measures with psychotherapeutic and clinical-psychological interventions. Treatment is individually tailored to your specific symptoms and may focus on the following areas:
- Structuring everyday life: practical strategies for organizing tasks and routines.
- Symptom reduction: Improvement of concentration, impulse control and hyperactivity.
- Dealing with accompanying stress: Help with procrastination, tantrums or emotional challenges.
At the ADHD Competence Center of the Vienna Couch, the focus is on your well-being. We support you with expertise and empathy - from diagnosis and treatment to the long-term stabilization of your quality of life.
