Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnostics (OPD)

Viennese Couch Room 2 (c) Michael Baumgartner | KiTO

In order for psychotherapeutic work to be effective, it is helpful for the therapist to engage with the client diagnostically at the start of therapy. Some WIENER COUCH therapists have been certified for OPD in an internal training course with over 60 work units and many practice diagnoses. With OPD, targeted therapy plans can be developed on a valid basis.

For you as a client, it is a great advantage if the therapy is based on a diagnosis that determines the focus of the therapy. The causes of your suffering are pinpointed and then treated directly. This makes the therapy more effective.

Background: The Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnostic takes the form of a multiaxial system. The OPD is based on the axes

  1. Experience of illness and treatment requirements,
  2. Relationship,
  3. Conflict,
  4. Structure and
  5. mental and psychosomatic disorders according to Chapter V (F) of the ICD-10.

After a one- to two-hour initial consultation, our therapists can assess your psychodynamics on these axes. The new version OPD-2 has been further developed from a purely diagnostic instrument to an instrument for therapy planning and change measurement. This includes the determination of therapy focal points and the design of treatment strategies tailored to them.
