Coaching helps you to reflect on your current life situation and provides you with good support in shaping your life, taking into account current issues and the goals you have set yourself. The focus is on further development and change.
The term "coaching" originally comes from competitive sport. A coach supervises, accompanies and supports athletes to achieve their best performance. At the beginning of the 1970s, coaching became established in the business world and has now also long since spread to the private world.
The reason for coaching can be a professional or private crisis - such as a job loss, relationship conflicts, a break-up or too much stress and pressure in life.
It can also be the desire for a new direction or to make the most of your own potential, improve your leadership skills, remove blockages and barriers to success, make your life together more positive or overcome a challenge. Or simply the need to discuss problems and sensitive issues with a neutral, professional counterpart.
Coaching takes place in several sessions and is limited in time. Problems are also analyzed during the coaching process, but the primary focus is on finding solutions using resources.
In principle, coaching is aimed at "healthy" people. People who want to get a coach on board to help them overcome their problems or for their development, in the knowledge that it is easier and quicker with professional support than alone.
Coaching is a good form of support, but is no substitute for psychotherapy. The diagnostic and therapeutic expertise of a psychotherapist is required, particularly in the case of mental illness. See psychotherapy.
